Dear Reader,
If my wife and I were pirates, I’d be either the skipper or the first mate, because Ali is certainly the captain and commander. Every time I get distracted by ducks or chickens or cats or dogs or foxes or other things, and leave the helm, she’s there to steer us towards saner, safer waters. If it were up to me alone, we’d have been marooned a long time ago on some uncharted island, our ship a shattered mess upon the beach. Instead, her steady, loving hand is always there, guiding us away from rocky cliffs and troubled seas.
This Thanksgiving, it is her birthday, and I am thankful for her. Her love for me and our son is fierce and unfettered. Honestly, I would watch your back if you’ve got beef with us, because you’d have to go through her first, and I wouldn’t bet a penny on your odds of coming out alive. If you know Ali, you know she is a kind, loyal and motivated source of brightness and energy. If you don’t, then I’m sorry for you. In our lives, she shines like a beacon to which we all draw near and love.
